im a chemical engeering student , and im doing my thesis on evaluating the technologies available, for the dehydration of the outlet of natural gas compresor plant, i have chosen 3 technologies, T.E.G absortion , molecular sieve adsortion and dehydration by cooling with EG as a inhibitor i would like to know, if using cooling and hydrate inhibition is effective for a compressor plant
im currently tryng to get some information on dehydration by cooling, and ive encountered that its mostly cooling and hydrate inhibition that the process consists on , and its usually defined as paralel hidrocarbon and water dew pointing, but my thesis subject is to evaluate a range of available technologies for dehydration and see wich one feets best for my process ( outlet of a natural gas compressor plant, for gas lift purposses).
i would like to know what advantages and disadvantages does it have , if its logical to use a cooling system for dehydrating a gas current out of a compressor plant, knowing you only want to eliminate water content and not do hidrocarbon dew pointing?, is it practical to cool the current, separate the liquids throu a 3 phase separator , and bring it back to its original temperature ?
Hi, my name is Todd. I'm a refrigeration contractor is Southern California. I have worked on both MEG injection systems and TEG systems. They are both common in gas plants. The main difference I have seen in my 15 years of servicing these types of refrigerated gas processing plants is that TEG is not used as often because it is upstream of the cooling and the water removal must be nearly 100% to prevent hydrate formation unless the gas is not cooled below the freeze point of the remaining water. I primarily see these TEG towers on non refrigerated gas plants that are only concerned with the total water content that they are contractually bound to in order to sell their gas. The MEG injection is what almost every refrigerated gas plant in my area use. The molecular siv type are almost non-existent on the smaller gas plants here. I can provide much input on real world experience with how to install, opperate, and troubleshoot any part of the MEG type. Let me know if you need any help.
